Registration is now open for the 8th Annual Municipal Agriculture Economic Development Forum on November 2nd & 3rd, hosted by the Town of Caledon and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, with support from Foodland Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance.
The Forum is a unique opportunity for those involved in municipal and local economic development that have agriculture and food in their portfolio (farming, food processing, agri-tourism, bio-fuel) to network, share successes, and learn more about programs targeted to the agricultural sector. Attendees will also experience many tastes and sites of Caledon.
Day 1: Eat, Drink and Network with like-minded economic development practitioners while on a bus tour – tour Everdale Organic Farm, visit, eat and enjoy a variety of local, fresh and progressive lunch tastings at Spirit Tree Estate Cidery, Heatherlea Farm Shoppe, a new on-farm store and butchery, and finish the tour with wine tasting at Adamo Estate Winery. Networking reception and evening keynote speaker at the Millcroft Inn & Spa will be Dana McCauley of FoodStarter on “Accelerating Food Entrepreneurship in your Community”.
Day 2: Forum speakers include Michele Harris, Executive Director of Headwaters Tourism, sharing the journey from identifying a strength in the equine sector to developing and branding Caledon and surrounding area as Headwaters Horse Country, Ontario’s Centre of Equine Excellence. Tour the Caledon Equestrian Park (PANAM equestrian site) with Craig Collins, and learn about the facility. There will also be speakers on: Using Planning Tools to Support Farm Viability, Resources to support Agriculture Economic Development in Your Community and Success Stories in Ag Ec Development.
