Olymel L.P., one of the country’s largest pork and poultry processors and distributors, has invested over $30 million to refurbish one of its existing plants and acquire a new 50,000-sq.-ft. plant, both located in Brampton.
The reorganization and addition of activities at both plants will create more than 100 new jobs for the area.
“The City of Brampton is pleased to hear that Olymel L.P. continues to invest in our City,” shares Amanda Leard, Sector Manager, Food & Beverage Processing, City of Brampton, Economic Development & Culture. “We value the contribution Olymel has made to Brampton’s business community, and look forward to the impact this new expansion will have on job growth and the economy. Large companies such as Olymel, continue to put Brampton on the global map as an ideal location for the Food and Beverage industry.”
The announcement from Olymel says that the investment will increase the company’s production capacity, particularly in the breaded poultry products segment, to capitalize on business opportunities that the market offers in the Hotel, Restaurant and Institution (HRI) network and in the retail distribution sector.
The original Brampton Orenda plant had reached its full production capacity, and has now been equipped with a fourth breading line and high-performance equipment to reach higher productivity and efficiency gains. The plant is also now able to produce gluten-free products at all times. The newer Westwyn plant is specialized in portioning poultry meat, as well as deboning, which was previously done at the Orenda plant.
