Wednesday, February 25, 2015

In regards to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Regulation Proposal Notice regarding Neonicotinoid Pesticides in Ontario, the Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee (DAAC) has put a Resolution forward that has been endorsed by Durham’s Regional Council. You may view the Resolution in full by clicking on the image to the left.

DAAC has expressed that this is a very important topic, and the Committee heard a presentation on the impact of neonicotinoid on pollinators at their 2014 DAAC Farm Tour by a pollination biologist and local beekeeper.

The Resolution states that the agriculture industry is responsive to continued research on best management practices, and DAAC has requested that the province adopt a science-based, balanced approach that ensures pollinator health while protecting agricultural productivity and viability.
