It’s officially autumn, and as the seasons change so do our cravings. Among the cooler breeze, fall harvest and beautiful foliage, what else comes to mind? Soup!
We all know there’s no better soup than those made with fresh, local ingredients, so where can you go relish in your new-seasonal soup cravings? Canada’s soup (and salad) bowl, of course.
Yes, the Holland Marsh Soupfest is back, this year on October 4th at Ansnorveldt Park on Dufferin Street, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. A partnership between King Township, Bradford-West Gwillimbury, and the Holland Marsh Growers’ Association, the event offers the delectable opportunity to sample various soups from over 30 chefs, all created with produce and meats grown locally right in the Holland Marsh.
Satisfying all tastebuds, the event is a celebration of all things local and brings the larger community together to celebrate (and eat) the delicious local food that surrounds us.
As you may recall from our previous story on the Holland Marsh, it is a tract of the most fertile, productive agricultural land in Canada. Abundant with beautiful farms and dedicated farmers who provide us with much of our food, it is a must-visit destination, and Soupfest is the perfect time to explore. Here visitors can see the unique lands where their food is grown, while also getting to see and taste an end product: the ultimate farm fresh.
The event has understandably become quite popular, as it incorporates the idea of economic development, agri-tourism interest, and the joining together of restaurants, institutions, local businesses, and the farming community, all while offering something that people love – soup!
So be sure to visit the Marsh on October 4th and try some unique soups bursting with Ontario flavour, and celebrate our local farmers and the local food that is grown in the GTA’s backyard.
