*CONTEST DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 30TH*
Are you a student in Ontario with a great idea for a new food and beverage product or process?
Taste Your Future, initiated by Food and Beverage Ontario (FBO), has launched a Student Bursary Contest to get young Ontarians interested in and excited about the diversity of careers in the food and beverage processing sector—a sector that generates $41 billion in revenue, provides over 130,000 direct jobs and exports $7.6 billion in product annually.
The contest is open to all Ontario high school and post-secondary students, and students may enter as an individual or as a group of up to four students.
Student Makers & Designers are to: create/prototype a food or beverage product or significantly enhance an existing product
Student Scientists, Engineers & Programmers are to: develop a process, software application, tool or machine for food and/or beverage processors
How to Enter
Submit a 3-minute video and entry form between January 30 – April 30
► Makers and Designers should consider: What needs does the product meet? Who would buy this product? How would you market this product?
► Scientists, Engineers and Programmers should consider: What problems does this solve? Who would use your process, app, tool or machine? How would you market it?
Up to 12 entries will be selected by the contest organizers to move to the final round, while considering the viability, marketability and clarity of the entry. The selection process will be made by the public and via a judging panel, which consists of the FBO, FoodGrads, and the Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance (the GHFFA has provided some funding for the contest)!
The public support part of the process will be weighed through Facebook and Youtube video views, as finalists videos will be posted to the Taste Your Future social media channels (and if you’re sharing, be sure to use the #TasteYourFuture hashtag).
Prizes
► Winners (up to 4 prizes) will receive a $2,000 bursary, an industry mentor in their field, resume/career counsel from FoodGrads, and a ticket to the 2017 FBO AGM
► Finalists (up to 8 prizes) will receive a $250 prize, an industry coaching session, resume/career counsel from FoodGrads, and a ticket to the 2017 FBO AGM
Finalists will be announced and their videos shared April 24th, and then the online voting/viewing period will run from April 24 – May 8. During the week of May 8th, the judging panel will review the finalists, and the winners will be announced the week of May 15th, to be celebrated at the FBO AGM in late June.
