Trio Bakery Inc., a manufacturer of freezer-to-oven filled pastries, has received a $1 million investment from FedDev Ontario to create the only fully automated burek pie production facility in North America.

With the funding, the bakery will retrofit an 18,900-square-foot facility in Mississauga with advanced equipment, including a fully automated production line, which they anticipate will increase production from 313 pies to 4,200 pies in a day.

“As well as adding 15 full-time manufacturing jobs in Mississauga, Trio Bakery Inc. expects to positively impact the local supply chain by purchasing ingredients and packaging from businesses in the Peel and Halton regions,” the news release shares.

The improvements to the recently-acquired facility will also promote sustainability and minimize environmental impact by employing energy-efficient equipment and processes that reduce waste and water usage.

“I am pleased that Trio Bakery Inc. has chosen to operate its state-of-the-art food processing facility in Mississauga,” shared Iqra Khalid, Member of Parliament for Mississauga–Erin Mills. “With FedDev Ontario support, the company is scaling its production capacity to be the leader in burek pie manufacturing across North America, while also creating good-paying jobs in the region, and strengthening both the local workforce and supply chain.”
