Durham Region farmers will be offering behind-the-scenes virtual farm tours throughout 2021 on the Durham Farm Connections Facebook page!
Each tour will be hosted by a farmer and will share a beyond-the-farm-gate view of many different types of farms, including: beef cattle, maple syrup, egg, greenhouse, field crop, dairy, apple orchard, sheep, peas & strawberries, hay, herb (specialty tea), wheat, apple cider, field vegetable & fruit, and a flower farm, with more to be added.
The first tour will begin on Thursday, March 18, at 3:30 p.m., with over 15 tours scheduled to take place throughout the rest of the year. The tours will be broadcast live on Facebook and will then be available for viewing for one week after.
“Previously, Durham Farm Connections hosted a school program and open house each year welcoming 1,200 students and 1,000 visitors to Whitby’s Vipond Memorial Arena each April,” says Sandra Jibb, a volunteer with Durham Farm Connections. “This virtual approach allows us to offer a new platform for engagement between farmers and those interested in speaking with a farmer.”
As a thank you to the farm hosts, a donation will be made for each tour to a Durham Region food bank by Durham Farm Connections.
