Farm Crawl Hamilton is back for 2016 with three upcoming dates: May 28th, July 16th, and August 13th. These three Saturdays are a wonderful way to experience life on the farm throughout the Hamilton area.
Farm Crawl is an opportunity to get an inside look at the operations of many of the family-run farms in Hamilton and surrounding area, each having designed their own unique experience for visitors. From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can move through the farms as you please.
It all began in 2011, with the owners of Manorun Organic Farm, Weir’s Lane Lavender & Apiary, and Jerry’s Berries (aka Lotsa Hostas) getting together to brainstorm a fun way to open up their farms to the public to share their experiences of running a farm. This was the start of Farm Crawl Hamilton, and ever since the first Crawl in 2012 it has been quickly growing, with not only attendees but also participating farms.
The May Crawl kicks off farming season, as their website says: “baby chicks and other animals are experiencing life, we’re getting our plants into the ground, pruning our lavender, the bees are foraging for their nectar and pollinating fruit and nut trees, the birds are chirping, and the air is crisp.”
There are 6 farms and a historic homestead on 2016’s May Crawl. So enjoy the beautiful weather and travel across Hamilton to experience life on farms in Flamborough, Copetown, Dundas, Ancaster and Stoney Creek.
